About Us

Our Story

The Walker family’s labor of love provides great-tasting, high-quality 100% grass-fed and grass-finished beef. The entire family plays a huge part in caring for the cattle and maintaining the soil and pastures used to feed the herd. Wife and mother Angie is the patient one on days when they herd cattle from one pasture to the next. She’s loved animals her whole life and they respond to her kind and gentle approach. In the middle of everything she’s the glue that holds the family together. Always on the go, she checks on the herd daily, always vigilant for any sign of sickness, and still finds time to put dinner on the table every evening and volunteer in 4-H and church.

“The boys” sons Cody and Alex help wherever they are needed – whether building fences or putting out hay in the winter they can always find time for a “sword” fight with an iron weed or a sorting stick.

Located in the Appalachian foothills of Southern Ohio, Double Shoe Ranch was started by the Walker family in 1943. What began on just 65 acres has grown into what now is almost 1000 acres of owned and leased land, used to foster an exceptional herd of cattle.
The ranch has been under the management of Dr. Stephen Walker since 1993. Dr. Walker learned the value of hard work and thrift at an early age from working alongside his grandfather on the farm. Those lessons, combined with his background in chemistry and veterinary medicine, allowed him to capitalize on the land’s lush and diverse forages to sustain a life cycle beneficial for the environment and animals.

A 2002 graduate of the veterinary school at Ohio State University, Dr. Walker is well-known for his work with large animals from the West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio areas including Amish Country, but his passion lies in farming.
“My mom impressed upon me you’ve got to love your work. I haven’t ‘worked’ a day since since I graduated – it’s not work if you love what you do.” – Dr. Stephen Walker
